100 THINGS

1. The thought of having a child no longer scares the hell out of me. I think this means my biological clock has finally started ticking.

2. I really like the smell of grass.

3. I’m a book junkie.

4. I don’t really like mint.

5. I will eat potatoes presented any way except raw.

6. When fall comes around, I always want to buy brand new school supplies…and new clothes. Even when i’m not in school.

7. At different times in the past, I have been the cheater, the cheatee, and the cheated on. But I never, not once, cheated on my (ex)husband, even though he accused me of it.

8. I punched a boy in 10th grade biology class. I can’t for the life of me remember why. Remarkably enough, the teacher didn’t do a thing about it.

9. Someday I will be fluent in Swedish. And French. And Spanish.

10. I don’t wear underwear. I’ve come to realize that people are either deeply fascinated or completely repulsed by this. There is no indifference.

11. My high school vice principal once accused me of dealing drugs in school and brought in a state trooper to question me. It was a huge misunderstanding.

12. I consider unasked for advice to be criticism.

13. I am a typical woman when it comes to chocolate. I could eat it all day long.

14. I wear socks to bed, even in the summer.

15. I prefer email to the telephone. Unless it’s my parents.

16. I work crossword puzzles in ink. By the time I’ve finished given up the puzzle is covered in black scribble marks.

17. I know that I have “a womanly shape” because some guy in college very cruelly pointed it out to me once.

18. I am not a bad listener. But I’m not an especially great one either.

19. I like public speaking. Sort of.

20. I deconstruct and grammatically analyze sentences while reading the newspaper.

21. I would be a good mom. But for now I’m just a great girlfriend.

22. I am sometimes more sensitive than I would like to be.

23. I am loyal to only to a few, carefully selected people. Otherwise, you’re on your own.

24. I am guilty of playing dumb. But not often.

25. I hate having my picture taken. Unless it’s by that guy at the dmv.

26. When navigating the thin line, I foolishly tend towards aggressive rather than assertive.

27. I am sometimes afraid to tell people that I love them.

28. I am more than just pro-choice. I think more people should chose abortion as a first, and only, option.

29. I am a quick, and accurate, judge of character.

30. I am capable of being really clique-y.

31. The older I get, the longer I am able to hold a grudge.

32. I sometimes fantasize about being an actress.

33. I can have difficulty finding inspiration.

34. I like to get cozy indoors.

35. I am an impulse shopper. And, from working retail, I have horrible guilt associations with returning anything unless it’s defective.

36. I got married at 25. Divorced at 28. These days, I hardly remember being married at all.

37. When i was little, and people told me I looked like my mom, I thought I was the most beautiful girl in the world.

38. The object of my first crush despised me for chosing him. So much so that he refused to say one word to me for the entirety of jr. And sr. High school.

39. “Talks too much” is written on every report card I ever received.

40. I’m a great cook. But a horrible baker.

41. I don’t like beer at all. But I drink it sometimes because everyone else is.

42. I have good hair. I’m not overly vain about it but I do wish it was darker.

43. I am wonderfully photogenic in mug shots.

44. I only drink about 2 cans of soda per year.

45. I can easily drink an entire pot of coffee each day by myself.

46. I cannot stand stupid, arrogant or closed-minded people. I think this is why I have such a visceral response to george bush.

47. I don’t look like anyone famous. Except maybe, on a good day, Marissa Tomei.

48. I sometimes expect a lot from others without ever telling them.

49. I’ve never read war and peace. But in high school I did a book-report on it anyway.

50. In college, a guy I’d just met told me I wouldn’t be able to “keep up” with his political discussion. I’ve been obsessed with proving I can ever since.

51. I love my parents more than anything in the whole world.

52. I really like red meat even though I have a bunch of vegetarian friends who are repulsed by my admission.

53. I take my steaks medium.

54. It is virtually impossible for me to relax without the aid of narcotics.

55. I’m sure I will someday stumble into greatness by freak accident.

56. I am a closet Eminem fan.

57. The idea of being a celebrity (not that I ever will be) freaks me out.

58. I really, really wish I could sing like Emmylou Harris.

59. Or Susan Tedeschi.

60. The best musical performance I have ever seen was Lyle Lovett.

61. 2nd best was Martin Sexton. However, it’s damn close.

62. I regret that I have lost touch with people because I didn’t know how to be a better friend.

63. They wouldn’t admit it, but I was all 4 of my grandparents’ favorite.

64. I aspire to be a “true christian” in the sense that I thoughtfully do the right thing all the time. No matter how hard it is.

65. I’ve never been anywhere I loved more than Tacoma. Seriously. Don’t laugh.

66. Everyday I worry that I don’t know how to handle true love.

67. Being healthy is either #1 or #2 in my list of life priorities.

68. I choose pet names with the letter “z” in them.

69. I have spent more hours surfing the internet than I can ever conceive to count. Or will ever admit.

70. I am by nature an extremely lazy person.

71. I hate a messy house. I get this from my mother.

72. I sometimes judge other people by the tidiness of their homes. I get this from my mother as well.

73. I judge a culture by whether I like its cuisine.

74. I am surprised and baffled by the fact that so many celebrities are short.

75. I am afraid of really drunk people.

76. I admit that i consider highly emotional people to be of poor intellect.

77. I don’t believe in religion. Or god. I believe in science, even though I don’t understand it much either.

78. I love making people laugh. Especially when I wasn’t expecting to. My mom is good for this.

79. I’ve had my best friend since I was 4 years old.

80. She’s the only friend I still have from childhood. Or high school. Or college.

81. I tend to make friends easily. Keeping them is another thing.

82. I sometimes wish I needed to wear glasses all the time.

83. For fun, I try to imagine what adults looked like when they were children.

84. I need to live near water, preferably the ocean. But I don’t participate in any water activities.

85. I can dine solo in a restaurant sans book, newspaper or any other “busy” distraction. But I know it confuses the waitstaff and other diners.

86. I was almost 30 years old before I ever ate sushi.

87. In Sweden I am considered to be fairly conservative in my political views, but in the US I am quite liberal. Relatedly, my political views have grown progressively more conservative as I’ve aged. I know this is normal.

88. When I was a teenager, my house was tee-pee’d numerous times. To this day, I still have no idea whodunit.

89. When I hear someone speaking english, I listen to determine if they are American. But I rarely speak to them, even though I might want to.

90. My birthday is extremely important to me.

91. I don’t like to drive. I speed just to get it over with. I have multiple tickets from multiple states (and countries) to prove it. I nearly lost my job because of too many tickets.

92. I like New York City, but I hate it when people say, “I love New York,” or display that “I (heart) NY” design.

93. I could never live in New York City. But I would love to live in Chicago…for a while.

94. I want to live within 10 minutes driving distance of my parents when I finally have a child.

95. It’s getting better, but I wish I had a better relationship with my dad.

96. I have multiple piercings in each ear. I wore earings until I was 21. Since then, not once. Because it looks trashy, that’s why.

97. I think my parents would like to be grandparents. But they never tell me as much. And for that I’m extremely lucky…and grateful.

98. I used to prefer the company of men to women, but as I get older I find I enjoy my women friends more.

99. I think this is because I finally figured out how to stop being jealous.

100. I am a west-coast girl, regardless of the country or continent.
